I was the Animation Director for PBS Wisconsin's Wisconsin Life animated short "Uprooted," which tells the story of Ernesto Rodriguez, a Cuban exile who fled during the 1980 Mariel Boatlift and eventually built a new life in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Based on the WPR Reports: Uprooted podcast — a series exploring the untold stories of Cuban exiles sent to Wisconsin during the boatlift. We brought Erne's journey to life through animation inspired by Cuban artists and poster art from the '70s and '80s, using a minimalist style with vibrant color palettes to represent both Cuba and Wisconsin.
